Movie-Like Event: First Statement from NASA Astronauts Stranded in Space!

Two NASA astronauts, who traveled to the International Space Station (ISS) with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, are stranded in space. The astronauts, who have been waiting for weeks to return to Earth, stated in a press conference that they are confident they will come home.

The astronauts, Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, were launched on June 5 and were expected to return by the end of June. However, helium leaks occurred in the vehicle during the journey to the space station.

In the press conference, the astronauts said they believed they would return to Earth, stating, “We have a good feeling that the spacecraft will bring us home without any problems.”

Officials stated that the return date depends on data and tests, and the astronauts could return at the earliest by the end of July. The two astronauts said they were not complaining about spending extra time in orbit and mentioned that they were helping the station crew.

Noticing that the thrusters of the spacecraft had malfunctioned, the astronauts explained that they manually controlled it for over an hour thanks to their experience and training.

Starliner was expected to be a significant competitor to Elon Musk’s SpaceX. When the Starliner project began, the budget set was exceeded by $1.5 million. Falling behind schedule, Boeing also faced a major issue with its commercial flight business due to faulty planes in recent months.
