5 Archaeological Objects That Even Archaeologists Cannot Figure Out What They Are For
There are many archaeological findings whose mysteries are still unsolved today. While discoveries made in archaeological sites provide new information about the past of humanity, they also raise new questions in minds. We share with you 5 archaeological objects whose functions even archaeologists cannot figure out.
Roman Dodecahedron

Archaeologists have not yet come to a conclusion about what this object was used for. While the function of this interesting object is often the subject of debate, it is thought to be used to knit gloves. What do you think this object was made and used for?
Stone Balls

According to the information in Arkeofili; Some of these balls, more than 425, were found in settlements and some in graves. The purpose for which these stone balls were used has been the source of much debate. It is unknown whether it was used as a projectile to deter predators or as a weapon of war. It may also have been used to measure weight.
Neolithic Drums

Three of these drums, whose purpose is unknown, were found in a children’s grave in Folkton, North Yorkshire, in 1889, and one was found in Lavant, West Sussex, in 1993.
Another was found at Burton Agnes in east Yorkshire in 2015.

The Agnes drum, discovered in 2015, was found along with a chalk ball and a bone pin in the graves of three children.
Archaeologists about the drum found during a routine research said:

‘’It was the middle of winter and the weather was terrible. It’s incredible to find something this rare.
We uncovered the skeletons and as we were cleaning around the head it became apparent and we realized we had found something special.
The detailed relief carving on the drum is a thing to behold and shows the great skill of its maker. “Research into the drum, tombs and surrounding excavations continues and we look forward to publishing more on this subject in the future.”
Rings

These rings from the Bronze Age are among the objects whose purpose is unknown. Although there are people who make comments about nose rings, hair ornaments and earrings, these comments do not seem to reflect reality as they are disturbing.
Cosmetic Grinders

The last interesting object is a cosmetic grinder located in Hockwold, Norfolk. This time, the mystery here is not the function, but which substance is being prepared…
The content of any of the mortar samples, which are thought to have been made with medicines, aphrodisiacs and cosmetics, has not yet been analyzed.
