A brain implant called “Layer 7 Cortical Interface,” developed by Precision Neuroscience company, was implanted in 71-year-old Parkinson’s patient Jeffrey Keefer.

As part of the experiment upon doctors’ request, Keefer’s thoughts were successfully read for 25 minutes.
The implant was designed to collect brain signals through electrodes implanted in Keefer’s brain and transmit them to an AI-supported program using wireless connection.
Additionally, the implant was connected to a device on Keefer’s chest, serving as both a battery and an antenna. As part of the experiment, Keefer’s brain signals were measured while moving his hands and then while only thinking about the same movements.

The results showed that even when motionless, Keefer’s thoughts produced brain signals that could be recorded in real-time and correlated with movements.
As Precision Neuroscience co-founder Benjamin Rapoport emphasized, the findings confirmed the potential to understand what the brain is trying to communicate through thoughts that do not translate into action.
