Scientists Uncover a Planet 212 Light-Years Away from Earth!

NASA’s James Webb Telescope recently made a groundbreaking discovery — an extraordinary planet located 212 light-years away from Earth, boasting clouds made of sand. This peculiar planet, named ‘Fluffy’ or WASP-107b, resembles a realm straight out of science fiction.
This exoplanet, comparable in size to Jupiter, showcases one of the most peculiar atmospheres known to date. Astronomers were astonished to identify silicate sand clouds, water, and sulfur dioxide capable of generating acid rain within its atmosphere.

However, what truly baffled experts was the absence of methane detected by NASA’s $10 billion James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). This anomaly hints at an unknown mechanism on WASP-107b for heat dispersion within its dynamic atmosphere.
Researchers at the KU Leuven Institute of Astronomy in the Netherlands noted that despite the planet producing sand droplets rather than water, its cloud formation system closely mirrors that of Earth’s.
While prior studies identified diverse cloud formations, this is the inaugural analysis delving into chemical compositions by astronomers.

WASP-107b orbits a star slightly cooler and less massive than the Sun, yet exhibits lower density compared to Jupiter, allowing for deeper analysis.
