French Artist Saype’s Painting Amidst the Ruins in Hatay

French artist known as Saype, the land artist Guillaume Legros, introduced his painting created amid the ruins in Hatay, which was affected by the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, Turkiye, to draw attention to the destruction and the unity displayed in the region.

Saype completed the 19th installment of his project called “Beyond Walls” in Hatay, with the aim of conveying a message of unity and togetherness to the world.

The land artist created frescoes using chalk and charcoal on grass and soil in three different locations in Hatay’s Antakya, Defne, and Altınözü districts.

After approximately two weeks of work, Saype presented his artwork at a gathering held in Armutlu Neighborhood in the Defne district.

The presentation was attended by Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfü Savaş, Defne Municipality Mayor İbrahim Güzel, Swiss Ambassador Jean Daniel Ruch, French Ambassador Isabelle Dumont, and representatives of various non-governmental organizations.

Saype explained that he was deeply affected when he saw the places destroyed by the earthquake, stating, “Some time has passed since the earthquake. There is significant destruction and pain experienced here. I believe it is important to remind people of this.”
